The Russell County Lakers defeated the Bowling Green Purples 8-3 at Nick Denes field on the campus of Western Kentucky University to win the 4th region tournament title on Wednesday night.
"They just came out ready tonight," Coach David Rexroat said of his team in his postgame show on WJRS 104.9 FM. "I could see it in their eyes."
Senior ace Adam Black picked up the win on the mound for the Lakers, who fell behind early, 2-0, before rallying midway through the game and then finally tacking three runs on in the 6th inning to seal the Purples' fate.
Coach Rexroat's team now moves on to face the district 3 tournament winner, Owensboro, in semi-state action next Monday, June 1 at Muhlenberg South High School. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
This is a best of three series, with game 2 on Wednesday, June 3 at 6 p.m. The third game, if necessary, will be played on Thursday, June 4 at 6 p.m.
