Former Russell County Lady Laker golf standout April Emerson defeated Lydia Gumm, Kentucky’s Miss Golf the past two seasons, in the championship match of the 83rd Women’s State Amateur at Cherry Blossom Golf and Country Club on Friday in a sudden-death playoff.
Emerson, a first team All-State talent last fall for Russell County, is an 18-year-old freshman-to-be at Eastern Kentucky University.
She played on Russell County’s state champion teams in 2003 and 2004 when she was a seventh- and eighth-grader. She also won numerous individual awards in her four years of high school.
Gumm, 15, is a freshman-to-be at North Hardin High School in the fall.
Emerson is the daughter of Mike and Teresa Emerson of Jamestown. Congratulations to April in her Women’s State Am title!
