The 15-year-old Russell County Babe Ruth All-Stars won their district tournament at the Lindsey Wilson College baseball complex and now move on to the state Babe Ruth tournament in Lexington this week.
Russell County defeated Rockcastle County 3-1 last Friday night, giving them a perfect run through the district tournament.
The all-stars began the tourney with a win over Rockcastle County, then defeated Green County and Somerset Pulaski before facing Rockcastle again in the tournament finale.
The team will now travel to Lexington for a Thursday matchup with Ashland at 5 p.m. central time in the state tournament.
Russell County’s 15-year-old team won the east Kentucky state title last season as 14-year-olds and will now try to replicate last year’s success. The team hopes to win the state title and advance to national regionals in Illinois.
Team members include Tyler Hayes, Blake Aaron, Caleb Russell, Evan Selby, Hunter best and Jalen Bennett. Back row, Justin Cox, Garret Stephens, Tyler Robertson, Kyle Gehrring, Taylor Hutchison, CJ Bray and Roger Brumley.
The team is coached by Richard Bennett, David Aaron and Josh Popplewell.
