August Event Schedule at Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery

Although the summer may seem to be coming to an end with the start

of school, there is still plenty of time, and several great events, taking

place at Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery!  So check out the

following and make plans to be a part of our hatchery happenings!

Join us on Saturday, August 8th, 2009 from 1:00pm 3:00pm CST

as the hatchery celebrates the birthday of one of the greatest outdoor

icons of all times Smokey Bear!  With cupcakes and free goodies,

bring your family and friends and stop in anytime from 1:00pm

3:00pm CST for a chance to meet the birthday bear himself!  You’ll

also learn more about the history of the real Smokey Bear and also

about his campaign message on forest fire prevention.  There’ll be

cake and plenty of time to tour the hatchery, including the

Visitor/Environmental Education Center, so don’t miss out on all the

fun!

For those who enjoy fly fishing or have ever wanted to learn, then

Saturday, August 22nd, 2009 is the program for you!  Join members

from the Louisville, KY chapter of Trout Unlimited for a great

morning of introductory fly fishing!  You’ll enjoy a fun-filled

morning of learning all the basics of fly fishing from some great

instructors.  This class is designed for the novice or beginner.  The

event will start at 9:00am CST and will conclude at 12noon CST.

There is no fee for the class; however, pre-registration is

REQUIRED to attend this event.  You may pre-register by

contacting Environmental Education/Outreach Specialist Amanda

Patrick at 270-343-3797 or via email at:

Are you a teacher, noformal educator, 4-H leader, Girl Scout/Boy

Scout volunteer, parent, etc looking to learn new, engaging, fun

activities that incorporate both the environment and education?  If so,

here is a workshop for you!  Make plans to attend the

Project WILD Facilitator Workshop, set for Friday and Saturday,

August 28th and 29th, 2009.  This workshop is designed to train

teachers and other interested persons to lead Project WILD

workshops.  The goal of Project WILD is for children and adults to

develop problem solving and decision-making skills about sharing the

environment with wildlife.  The workshop will be from 5:00pm

8:30pm CST at the Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery

Visitor/Environmental Education Center on Friday, August 28th,

2009 and 8:30am to 5:00pm CST on Saturday, August 29th, 2009.

Both days are required.  The fee to register is $40.00 (includes all

programming, materials, books, meals and snacks).  Campsites at

nearby Kendall Campground will be available for those needing

overnight accommodations.  You may pre-register by contacting
