In My Opinion ... by Ron Phillips
In Aug. 8 Issue
Russell County News

"My Opinion” may not necessarily be yours!

At least that seems to be the sentiments of one of my readers. A recent letter to the Editor stated… Mr. Ron Phillips needs to get a life. He seems to think that the majority of Russell County and Kentucky agrees with his ideas. He takes other people’s work, adds a few sentences here and there and creates a weekly newspaper article. Why not try writing something original for a change ....something that isn’t biased by his clouded view of our country.

Inspirational Huh? I find it interesting that a person can boldly criticize the opinion of someone and even critique the quality of the content, but does not have the courtesy to sign their name.

I bet this person is also one of those people that writes the naughty messages on restroom walls.

This is a prime example as to where our culture is headed. While an over whelming majority of readers in Russell County and other parts of the state have continued to praise my articles, there are a select few that can’t seem to see the forest for the trees or the clouds.

The good news is that’s okay! Here in America we are, at least for now, allowed to form our on opinions.

The Obama administration is quickly trying to dismantle the very fabric of our great nation. This administration believes that the people are not able to take care of themselves or make their own decisions.

We need overseers, or Czars that are appointed by the President and answer to no one but the President. Last time I reviewed the Constitution, we have a system of government with checks and balances called the Executive, Judicial and Legislative branches. I didn’t see anything about Czars in there!

Last count, President Obama has appointed 18 Czars and I believe that number is increasing regularly.

Our founding fathers realized that too much government was a bad thing. I am certain that my most recent critic cannot site one example where anything that is run by the government is run smoothly and efficiently.

A perfect example is our governments care for Native Americans.

The US Government has been caring for the American Indians for decades.

Our congress is considering the most expensive healthcare bill in our nation’s history, and we have not been able to administer an effective healthcare program for our own Native Americans.

I continue to write “My Opinion” articles because I refuse to let this country to be transformed into something that our forefathers would not even recognize.

Anyone who has there “own” opinion should put their thoughts in writing, sign their name and send it in to the editor as I do each week.

I began serving my country on July 18th 1972 in the US Army and even though I was honorably discharged, I took an oath to protect this great nation. I have always been a little odd when it comes to keeping my word.

I guess I really do need to get a life! Oh! I already have one that is “free” thanks to our founding fathers. I’ve never claimed to be a literary giant, just an average person who thanks all of you for reading “My Opinion”.

May God bless…

Ron Phillips
