In Aug. 22 Issue

By Ron Cowell, Columnist

Terry Stephens of Stephens Pipe and Steel is planning a big car show to raise money for Ronald McDonald House.

Terry, a lover of old cars himself has purchased the old Houchens Building and turned it into a Classic Car museum with many cars from his personal collection.

The Car Show itself will be open to anyone who wants to enter and it is for a good cause so spread the word.

The show will be held September 12th at the Old Houchens Building on Lakeway Drive in Russell Springs.

There will be plenty of room for parking for all the cars on display. Registration will begin on the morning of Saturday the 12th at 9:00 AM and close at noon.

All the awards and trophies will be given out at around 3:00PM. I have seen some of the awards myself and they are beautiful.

Terry spared no expense in getting awards that you will be proud to win.

Along with all the old cars that will be on display that day, Motorcycles, Tractors, and Trucks.. It will be a fun day for both car owners and spectators.

Some of the awards that will be handed out that day will be: the Best of Show Trophy, Best Car, Best Truck, Motorcycle and Tractor. There will be a Club participation trophy along with Top 25 Plaques. Dash Plaques will be given out to the top 25 cars at the show and dash plaques to the first 100 to be registered.

Music will be provided by “Ron’s Rockin Oldies”. It will be a day full of oldies music, trivia questions about the old music, TV shows and old cars with prizes for the winners. It’s always a good time to see the old cars, hear the old songs and for those of us that are old enough to look back and remember some of the things we did when we were kids.

For those of us not old enough it will be a good time to make some memories of your own.

Then in another 20 years you can look back and remember the day you spent at Stephens Pipe and Steel Car Show and all the fun you had.

Rumor has it Ronald McDonald is going to show up that day for the kids also. Terry has stated he would like to turn this into a annual event if he could. It’s for a good cause so mark it down and plan to be there.

Final Cruise for

The “OUTSIDERS” Car Club will have their final Cruise of the year on the second Friday, September 11th at 6:00 PM. Once again it will be held at Sonic in Russell Springs.

Each month through the summer the “Outsiders” Cruise has got better and better, and the Sept. Cruise is going to be the best of all.

Once again there will be plenty of prizes, the 50/50 raffle with the girls decked out in their Poodle Skirts and that great old music provided by Ron’s Rockin’ Oldies.

The Club is in it’s second year now and things are moving right along for them.

The very first Cruise for the club was held Thursday, May 1st,  2008 at the old Lake and Shake in Russell Springs.

There were 25 cars attended the first cruise with members of the Lake Cumberland Antique Car Club, and the Ol’ Boys Toys Club attending. There were many spectators at the Cruise also.

In the beginning the club had 18 members and in the two years it had grown to 32 members, some from as far away as Iron Mountain, MI.

If you haven’t made it out to any of their Cruise Ins you need to try to attend the last one of this year.

Once again there will be plenty of beautiful old cars, many friendly people and a whole lot of fun. Hope to see you there.

If your Car Club is having an event and you would like us to tell everyone about or someone who you would like to see featured in this article send all information to, .

All information on upcoming events needs to be in at least two weeks before the event.

If your Club or church or group is having an event and you would like to display some classic cars at that event let me know at least two weeks in advance.

One or all of the clubs in the area would be more than happy to bring the cars out for you.
