Cruisin': Ol Boys Toys thank Don Franklin Motors
In Aug. 29 Issue
Russell County News
By Ron Cowell, Columnist

Last week the Ol Boys Toys car club said “THANK YOU” to Franklin Motors with a beautiful plaque for their sponsorship of the club. Club President Billy Lawson, Vice President, David Hill and Secretary Sandy Weiand presented Lance Wade of Franklin Motor’s a plaque of appreciation.

The Dealership has sponsored the club for many years now and purchased the trophies for the clubs car shows each month throughout the summer Car Show Season.

The Ol Boys Toys will have their September show on the third Saturday of September 19th from three to six p.m. in the K Mart parking lot. This show will be special for the club this year. Besides the usual trophies they will be having free hot dogs and hamburgers. They encourage everyone to come out and enjoy the afternoon with them. Bring your lawn chair and have a burger..

The third Saturday of Oct. will be the last show of the year for The Ol Boys Toys. Mark that on your calendar.

The “OUTSIDERS”

A few of the Outsiders Car Club attended a Car show at Scholtzsky’s in Somerset this past Sunday. Dwayne and Mike Esau came home with a trophy for third place in the best of show. Their “55” Chevy always turns heads where ever they go. I got the shock of my life when my “61” Corvair took first place in the Compact Division. There were several Mustangs there with three winners is each category according to the year of the car.

The show was held in the parking lot of the restaurant from 1:00pm till 4:00PM EST and the weather was perfect. The show, sponsored by The Mustang Mafia Car Club of Somerset was the second year for the Mafia to put on the show. They plan to make this an annual event.

Next month, September 11th will be the final Cruise in of the year for The OUTSIDERS. It will be held at Sonic Restaurant from 6 p.m. till when ever. There will be plenty of nice prizes given away for the final show of the year. If you haven’t made it to one of their shows this year you will need to try to make this last one for 2009.

On Monday Sept. 3rd the “OUTSIDERS” will have their monthly meeting at the Porch on 127. There will be election of officers for the next year. According to the club’s by laws an officer can only hold the office for a period of two years. The present officer have been in office for two years.

Neil Patton as President, Tom Bernardi, Vice President, Ron Cowell, Secretary and Dwayne Esau as Tres. This would be the perfect meeting to attend if you would like to become a member of the club. The Club will meet at 6:00 p.m. enjoy dinner and  then have their monthly meeting.

 LABOR DAY SHOW IN COLUMBIA

Another Show coming up you might want to attend will be put on by the “Klassic Kruisers” Car Club of Columbia. This is an annual event that usually has 100 cars or better and is held at the Fair Grounds in Columbia on Monday, Labor Day, Sept 7th.  This is a great show with plenty of awards for some of the nicest cars in the area. If you like the old cars this is one show you won’t  want to miss.

If your Car Club is having an event and you would like us to tell everyone about or someone who you would like to see featured in this article send all information to, djron47@yahoo.com .

All information on upcoming events needs to be in at least two weeks before the event.

If your Club or church or group is having an event and you would like to display some classic cars at that event let me know at least two weeks in advance.

One or all of the clubs in the area would be more than happy to bring the cars out for you.

That’s it for this week, till next time “Keep Cruisin.”
