In My Opinion ... by Ron Phillips
In Oct. 3 Issue
Russell County News

Ever seen a Post Turtle?  This story was passed on to me recently by a friend and it helps answer the question.

While suturing a cut on the hand of a 75 year old rancher, whose hand was caught in the gate while working cattle, the doctor struck up a conversation with the old man. Eventually the topic got around to Barack Obama being our President.

The old rancher said, 'Well, ya know, Obama is a 'Post Turtle.''

Not being familiar with the term, the doctor asked him what a 'post turtle' was.

The old rancher said, "When you're driving down a country road and you come across a fence post with a turtle balanced on top, that's a 'post turtle.'"

The old rancher saw the puzzled look on the doctor's face so he continued to explain. "You know he didn't get up there by himself, he doesn't belong up there, and he doesn't know what to do while he's up there, and you just wonder what kind of dimwit  put him up there to begin with."

Now I’m sure I’ve got the fur up on those of you that voted for Mr. Obama and for those of you that are still supporting him, well odds are “You ain’t from here” or you don’t read my column anyway!

I’m also sure that some of you feel that I have been unfair to President Obama, but I am as certain that he is the wrong man for the President of the United States as he believes he is the right man for the job!

I accept the fact that a majority of the people voted him in office, but are they happy with their decision?

It has been said, “Show me your friends and I’ll show you your future”. Wise words!

How can a man that has surrounded himself with radical thinking Marxist extremist not be influenced by their teachings?

How can one set in the church of the Rev. Jeremiah Wright for 20 years and say he never heard any of the radical teachings of this man?

I will close with inspirational quotes from our third President, Thomas Jefferson.

When we get piled upon one another in large cities, as in Europe, we shall become as corrupt as Europe.

The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not.

It is incumbent on every generation to pay its own debts as it goes.

A principle which if acted on would save one-half the wars of the world.

I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.

My reading of history convinces me that most bad government results from too much government.

No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms.

The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.

Thank you all for reading “In My Opinion” Your comments and support have been appreciated.

May God bless this great Nation!
