In Oct. 8 IssueBy Greg WellsTimes Journal Managing EditorRuth Campbell called in to report what she said was a bad situation at Small Steps Child Care in Jamestown.
"The state people came in Thursday and closed them down," Campbell said. Then she detailed some alleged abuse instances relayed to her third hand.
Cabinet Information Officer Anya Armes-Weber confirmed this week that staff from the inspector general's office at the Cabinet for Health and Family Services were at the business October 1 with an Emergency Suspension order.
The agency reports that the business, owned by Rhonda Stapp, complied with the order and as of this week the business at Stapp's home in the subdivision behind Fruit of the Loom was closed.
"They closed us without any investigation or verification of the allegations," said Stapp. "Its all because of an irate former employee."
She said she'd fired an employee Wednesday and the inspectors were there the next day.
She said there was nothing improper going on at the business and she has a lawyer addressing the situation.
