In Nov. 5 IssueThe Russell County Laker Marching Band has earned a spot among the top sixteen bands in the state. They were awarded this honor Saturday in KMEA AAA west regional quarterfinals competition in Bowling Green.
Those bands competing in the AAA West Regional Finals were North Oldham. Larue Co., Breckenridge Co., Lone Oak, Adair Co., Warren East, Taylor Co., Boyle Co., Franklin-Simpson, Russell Co., Calloway Co., and Hart Co.
The Laker Band received a distinguished rating and received a score of second place overall.
The Lakers took the field Saturday in the western division with the top eight bands advancing to state semi-finals Saturday November 7th. These eight bands will join eight other AAA bands in the east division to compose of the sixteen top AAA bands to advance.
The sixteen bands to compete in Brandenburg in the KMEA AAA state preliminaries are Larue Co., Adair Co., Warren East, Taylor Co., Boyle Co., Calloway Co., Hart Co., Estill Co., Rockcastle Co., Highlands, Rowan Co., Garrard Co., Powell Co., Mason Co., Bourbon Co., and Russell County, which will perform at 1 p.m. Central Time
The top four AAA bands from this competition will then advance to Papa John's Stadium In Louisville. The state finals AAA division will begin performing at 7 p.m. central time.
