With the filing deadline in less than three weeks, many local races still have no applicants.

Jamestown and Russell Springs city council races still have no candidates listed.

Terry Lawless is the only candidate who has filed for mayor in Jamestown and there are no names down for mayor in Russell Springs.

In county races no one has filed for the position of county surveyor while; the county clerk's position has Lisha Popplewell's name listed, and Larry D. Skaggs' is the only name listed under candidates for coroner.

Larry Bennett, Tim Pierce and James Eugene Fetty have all filed as candidates for sheriff, with Fetty the only Democrat candidate.

In the jailer's race Bobby S. Dunbar, Tim Glover and David Bernard are the candidates so far, with Glover the only non-Republican in that race to date.

Property valuation administrator is the only county wide office with four candidates. Brooke Bunch filled out the term of the previous administrator and has filed for election, along with Tim Popplewell, Anthony T, Carnes and Roger Back. Bunch and Back are Democrats the others are Republicans so both parties will have primary contests in that office.

At present the county attorney and county judge's races are single party affairs with two Republican candidates each.

For county judge Mickey Garner and Ralph Creech are the candidates. For county attorney it is Kevin Shearer and Mark Leon McGaha.

The magistrate races are filling up with only Ronald Johnson unopposed in the third district and a single Democrat, Lou Ann Gore Flanagan running in the fifth district.

Four republicans, Greg Popplewell, Shelby David Flanagan, Terry Huckaby and Chad Aaron have filed as candidates in the first district.

In the second district five Republicans, Travis D. Man, Randall Bunch, Coy McGowan, Keith Pierce and Brook Cochran have all filed papers.

In the fourth district Jimmy R. McQueary and Dale Carey are the only candidates, both Republicans.

Larry W. Holt and Lou Ann Gore Flanagan, the lone Democrat, are candidates in the fifth district.

Four men have filed for three of the five constable positions. Larry Appleby and Ricky Wooldridge in district one, Troy More in district four and Michael "Toe Joe" Bray in district five.

County Clerk Lisha Popplewell said that 4 p.m. on the 26th of January is the final deadline to file for a spot on the ballot.

Those ballot positions will be drawn on the 28th of January for the spring primary, which leads to the November election next year.

There are contestants that must file in Frankfort for entrance to the multi-county races next year, such as seats in the general assembly, judges positions and commonwealth's attorney.

Athena Cooper, Scarlett B. Latham and Larry E. Rogers are the candidates for District Judge in the 40th district, 1st division.

There are presently no official entries into the local commonwealth's attorney or circuit judges' positions and likewise the state senate and representative positions have no official filings for this area.
