In Jan. 9 IssueRussell County NewsBy Ron Cowell, ColumnistThe way the weather has been this past couple days it’s kind of hard to be thinking summer, but some of us are already planning some events for next summer’s car show season. About this time of year I get cabin fever and start to think about warm weather and old cars.
Last year The Russell Springs Masonic Lodge #941 held their first “Pride In Your Ride” Car Show in downtown Russell Springs. For those of us who attended, it was a rather wet day with the sky opening up several times. But that didn’t stop the true die hard car lovers from coming out and showing their cars and having fun in the rain. All in all it turned out to be a really nice show and everyone enjoyed themselves in spite of the weather.
This year the Lodge is already working on the show for this summer. The Pride In Your Ride Car Show will be held on Saturday June 12th, 2010. This year it will include Cars, Trucks, Motorcycles, and tractors.
As we get close to the date and I get more information I will pass that along to you. If you have any questions about this show you can give Chuck a call at 270-585-0807.
The winners of last years show were shown at the Offshore Racing event that was covered by ESPN that was held at Lake Cumberland the week end after the event.
This year one of the OSS Grand Prix, Race on Lake Cumberland Racing Boat’s may be sticking around for the Masonic show. If plans can be worked out, the racing boat will be on display on Main Street in Russell Springs during the Car Show. If you have never seen one of these monsters up close you will be in for a treat.
This year’s Masonic “ Pride In Your Ride Car Show” will also have plenty of trophies, food, car parts, vendors, music, clowns and much more.
Another event that is in the works for 2010 is the “Ohio Valley Cruisers Car Show in Henderson Kentucky. This is an annual event and one that I believe is one of the most fun filled shows of the summer. Not only are there beautiful top quality cars there but the “Ohio Valley Cruiser Club” is some of the nicest people you will ever meet. They are a friendly group that work hard to see that you have a good time and enjoy the show.
I have attended this show for over 10 years now and I look forward to it every year. Wynn Stone, President of the Ohio Valley Cruisers and his wife Sheri are always on hand to make sure everyone is happy. The club works on door prizes all year and if you don’t win something at this show you just didn’t hear them call your name or number.
Besides the door prizes they have several BIG prizes they give away also. Last year there was a $500.00 gift Certificate from Wal Mart. A set of tires for your vehicle just to name a couple.
The Sock Hop is on Saturday night this year on May 15th, then the Show itself will be held the following day, Sunday May 16th. It’s a day and a half event that you will be glad you attended.
The past two years The “Outsider’s Car Club from Russell County attended and did very well coming home with many awards. Each member that attended had a wonderful time and is looking forward to another good show this year. This is another show you don’t want to miss even if you only drive up to Henderson on Sunday for the show itself. It's a weekend of beautiful Cars, good food, good music and fellowship. Hope you can attend this year.
Another show I believe to be one of the best in this area that you will want to attend is The “REVIN’ and RAVIN” Car Show and swap meet. It’s put on by “ANOTHER LEVEL CAR CLUB”. The club has sponsored this show for many years and it always turns out to be one of the better shows of the summer. It’s usually held at Hwy 80 Auto Auction, behind the Marathon Station on 127 in Russell Springs. As soon as I get more information on “REVIN and RAVIN” I will be passing that information on to you also..
That’s about all I have time and room for this week but I will keep you posted on more events from “THE OLD BOYS TOYS CAR CLUB” and “LAKE CUMBERLAND CLASSIC CAR CLUB” as they are passed on to me. In the meantime, think Spring and “Keep Cruisin”
If your Club Club is having an event you would like us to tell everyone about drop me a line with all the information at djron47@yahoo.com. All information on events needs to be turned in at least two weeks before the event.
Also you may want to have one of the Clubs in the County bring their cars for display at your club or church or function. Once again drop me a line and I will get you in touch with the Clubs in the area. The clubs of Russell County are more than happy to show off their cars.
