In Jan. 28 IssueThe Lake Cumberland Tourism/Economic Development Advisory Committee is working with local, state and federal agencies, such as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Gov. Steve Beshear, U.S.Congressman Harold “Hal” Rogers and U.S. Congressman Ed Whitfield and announced this week they have developed a plan.
This is to improve tourism and develop a plan for the future of Lake Cumberland. This plan makes recommendations for marketing, maintaining visitation levels, parking, new developments including on-water facilities and other issues involving the lake.
All involved, including Governor Steve Beshear, Congressman Hal Rogers and Ed Whitfield, agreed on the importance of tourism to the economic welfare of the region and pledged their support.
Over the past years we have witnessed many such regional plans for the promotion of Lake Cumberland.
Plans are great but like most others, it takes funds to implement these plans to achieve a successful result.
While our Governor and Congressmen pledge their support, the funding must follow, and the work must begin.
The Lake Cumberland area needs this state and federal assistance. It is not possible for the few marinas around the lake and the two or three tourist commissions to fund such an expansive development undertaking.
We sincerely hope this is not just another picture perfect plan but one that will be implemented into a successful development.
