In a lawsuit signed by Michael Selby, the Russell Register's parent company has named all the magistrates on the fiscal court individually, the court itself, and the parent company of the Times Journal as defendants.
In the suit, it is alleged again that Selby's paper has the larger circulation and accuses the representatives of the Times Journal of having lied when they told the court it was the Times Journal which has the larger circulation.
In the case, Selby, through his attorney Robert Bertram, demands compensation and punitive damages.
“When they demanded damages that means the Kentucky Association of Counties will provide a lawyer to defend the magistrates,” said County Attorney Mark McGaha.
The civil action was filed in Russell Circuit Court last Thursday.
