In April 15 IssueThe Russell County Track and Field team opened up their season at the Somerset All Comers meet on March 30th on a positive note doing well as teams and individually, according to Coach Misty Matney.
Highlighting the meet was the win by the boy’s 4X200 relay team consisting of Jackson Evans, Nick Britt, Jeron Hammond and Aaron Pierce.
Aaron Pierce also won the 400m. dash in a better time than he had all last season, and placed 4th in the 200m. dash. Jackson Evans placed 3rd in the 300 m. hurdles bettering his time as well from last season.
Trevor Robertson, an eighth grader, gained the 5th position in the 800m. run as well as a 5th place finish in the 1600m. run. Nick Britt placed 5th in the boy’s long jump.
Codey Bell placed 4th in the shot put event. Selena Padilla, and eight grader, also won the high jump and had a 3rd place 100m. hurdle finish.
The girl’s 4X200 Relay team including Emily York, Bailey Bean, LeeAnn Grider and Ally Harris placed 4th, and Harris also placed 2nd in the 400m. dash just getting edged out of first place by three tenths of a second.
The 4X400 relay team including Emily York, Bailey Phillips, Heather Owens and LeeAnn Grider placed 4th overall. Sophie Koester placed third in the shot put event.
The teams had good overall individual place finishes that helped gain the girl’s team a 4th place overall team finish out of twelve teams and the boy’s a fifth place overall team, Matney said .
