In April 15 IssueCoach David Rexroat’s Russell County Laker baseball team have found success recently and won their first district road matchup of the season Tuesday afternoon with an 8-2 decision over the Metcalfe County Hornets.
Caleb Russell picked up the win for Russell County in that game.
Then, on Monday afternoon, the Lakers defeated the visiting Boyle County Rebels by a score of 5-2
Laker junior Martin Cross pitched the complete game win and had a no-hitter through five innings.
Sophomore Hunter Best had two hits in the win and senior Zach Carney had one RBI to lead the Lakers. Boyle County added seven errors in the game that helped their demise.
Over spring break the Lakers traveled to Destin, Fla. to compete in the Florida baseball Beach Bash.
Russell County picked up wins over Lawrence County, Somerset, Lone Oak and Crittenden County at the bash while falling to Niceville, Fla., a consensus top-10 team in the country.
Both sophomores Blake Aaron and Hunter Best, senior teammate Dillon Downey and junior Taylor Hutchison homered on the trip.
Laker pitchers Martin Cross, Garret Stephens, Taylor Hutchison and Tyler Robertson all garnered wins in the trip south.
