In April 15 IssueBy Derek AaronTimes Journal ReporterIn efforts to raise cancer awareness in our community, the Russell County Relay for Life teams and committee are encouraging local businesses to join them by decorating their windows or outside of their business purple, according to Moochie Hart with the Relay.
The "Paint the Town Purple" contest is just one of a string of events heading into this summers' Relay for Life event.
Purple is the official relay color and the color that encompasses all cancers, Hart said.
"We realize that not every business can financially support the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life, however everyone can get involved in the 'Paint the Town Purple' endeavor," she said.
"Everyone at some point has been affected by cancer, and this is our way of showing support to our local survivors and is our way getting the word out about what our Relay for Life does for Russell County cancer patients."
Hart said if anyone would like to participate in the contest, to please pick up an application at the Lake Cumberland Area Development District, South Kentucky RECC or First National Bank.
Applications must be turned in by 4 p.m. Friday, April 16 to Moochie Hart at the Lake Cumberland Area Development District, which is located next to Lawhorn Ford in Russell Springs.
The judging will take place on Thursday, April 22. A traveling trophy will be presented to the winner in both the "storefront window" and "outside of business" categories.
