In April 17 IssueRussell County NewsBy Ron Cowell, ColumnistFriday, the April 9th Cruise In at the Jamestown Family Center turned out to be a big success with Classic Cars, along with cars from The “OUTSIDERS” car Club and The Old Boys Toys Car Club and a group of Motorcycles. This was the first Cruise of the Summer for the Russell County Clubs. There were plenty of Classic Cars, Motorcycles, music and food.
Vehicles started to arrive at the Center about 5 p.m.. George Alford, owner of the Center, along with Renee Dix, the Centers manager, were busy on the grill cooking hamburgers and hot dogs for the crowd. The summer atmosphere was back and everyone was enjoying it.
All around the parking lot people were gathered in groups talking about the long cold, wet winter and how good it was to have the warm weather, sunshine and everyone back together again for another season.
It was good to see all the people who stopped by just to see the vehicles and enjoy the food. The kid’s were having a ball playing the games in the game room and cashing in their tickets for prizes.
Inside the Center “Gravel Switch” a local band was playing that good old Country Music.
Out in the parking lot you could hear the old Ray Price, Johnny Cash and songs from the old country artists.
The old music fit in well with all the Classic cars in the lot.
The reason the first Cruise In was held at the Center on Friday night instead of Saturday was because there was a film crew there filming a commercial for TV. The spot will be running on five different networks. I’ll let you know which one as soon as I have the information so you can watch for your friends and neighbors in the commercial on TV.
The Center is planning on having a Cruise in once a month on the third Saturday of each month from 5 p.m.
To 9 p.m. This is the same day the Old Boys Toys have their Car Show at Sonic in Russell Springs. After the Old Boys Toys Show you can head to the Center in Jamestown and continue with the fun and fellowship. Don’t it feel good to be back in the season of Old Cars, Cook outs and seeing everyone out and about again. If you would like any information on the up-coming Cruise Ins give Renee a call at the Center at 270-343-8556, she will fill you in on anything you need to know.
The Center is located in Jamestown at 812 North Main Street.
Another event that has been changed is The Old Boys Toys Car Show. If you remember it has been held in the K Mart parking lot for the past several years. The Club has had such success with the shows that they needed to move on to a location where they had room for more cars. This year their Car Show each month will be held at The Sonic Drive In in Russell Springs.
Everything else remains the same except for the location. It’s still held the third Saturday of the month. You might want to make note of the change for their shows.
If you know someone you would like to see featured in my article or your club has an upcoming event you like to let everyone know about send the information to -djron47@yahoo.com --- and we'll get it in here for you.
With the season coming on, and your group or club is having an event and you would like to have some of the Classic Cars there for display any of the local clubs would be glad to bring their cars out to show, (weather permitting). All information needs to be in at least two weeks before the event. Until next time, Keep Cruisin’.
