Cruisin': Old Age or What?
In May 1 Issue
Russell County News
By Ron Cowell, Columnist

This past week has really been a good week for me. It seemed everything I did came out really good. In fact it was one of the most perfect weeks I have had in a long time.

Car season got underway and everything went well with that. As you know the Car show season started off at the Jamestown Family Center a week ago with a Block Party for Classic Cars and Motorcycles.

A great crowd turned out for that night. It was complete with games, burgers on the grill and some great country music with a band out of TN.

As well as that went, I was really surprised when I went to the Old Boys Toys first Car Show at Sonic in Russell Springs.  It turned out to be a really good show with the biggest turn out the club has had.

Anyone who knows me, knows when I buy a ticket to support a club or group, I end up just donating money because in my whole life I have never won a thing.

When I registered for the Old Boys Toys Car Show they gave me my little red ticket and told me to hang on to it and maybe I would win a door prize. “yea right” me win a prize..

As I said everything was going really well all week but it felt like something was missing. Car Club stuff was going well, shows were better than usual and I had a chance to win a prize at the Old Boys Toys Show.

To make things even better I had to leave early because of a previous engagement but I had that little red ticket.

Knowing I would never win anyway I gave the ticket to Mike and Phyllis Taylor from the “OUTSIDERS” Car club and told them I had to leave and here is my ticket.. With that off I went.

It wasn’t an hour and a half later my cell phone rang and it was Phyllis asking me when I was going to have them over for supper and cook the big Country Ham I had just won.  I couldn’t believe it,, I actually won something.

Now things are just going too good. Yet there was that feeling deep inside that I had forgot something.

That feeling kept nagging at me but I just didn’t know what it could be.

I even had an appointment with the doctor, (one of many lately) and this visit was actually GREAT news and I got a good report for a change.

By now it’s Thursday afternoon and it has been a wonderful week but that feeling was still inside me. What have I forgot?

In the late afternoon I turned on my computer just to see what was going on with my email and if there was any world news to catch up on. I had to visit the usual car pages I usually visit to see what’s happening there.

Then I got to my email….. I see one from a co-worker at the newspaper office from Greg Wells and it was titled “Missing”. It hit me then. I knew what that feeling was that was missing and all it took from Greg was one word in the subject line----- Missing.

Here it is Thursday, late afternoon and I still had not turned in my article for the paper yet. That’s what was nagging at me. Usually I have it in on Tuesday.

Greg had ask me if I had sent it in and said he may have filed it someplace and forgot where he put it. I thought long and hard about that. Let’s see,,, I could tell Greg I sent it in and didn’t know what happened to it.

The more I though about it, it seemed like a good idea other than it was not the truth.

So I emailed Greg and told him it would be in ASAP. I had a senior moment. Next was,, what do I write about. Then it hit me. I can tell everyone that I had a wonderful week but even with that I had forgot to do something that I have done every week for a couple of years. I guess old age catches up with all of us sooner or later.

Well, I have this finished and going to send it on in to Greg. Then I want to head out to a Car Show. I’m glad that feeling is gone so off I go.

Now if I could only remember where I parked my old car I’d be on my way to that show.

If you know someone you would like to see featured in my article or your club has an upcoming event you like to let everyone know about send the information to --- and we'll get it in here for you.

With the season coming on, and your group or club is having an event and you would like to have some of the Classic Cars there for display any of the local clubs would be glad to bring their cars out to show, (weather permitting).

All information needs to be in at least two weeks before the event.

Until next time, Keep Cruisin’!
