Between losses suffered by two of the top-ranked teams in the region, the Russell County Laker Boys tennis team scored a 4-1 win over the Adair County Indians on Thursday, April 29th.

Playing in regional format style, the Lakers won all of their doubles matches and one singles match.  Steady Ben Roy earned an important point with 6-1 victory in singles.

Kerry Kingry and Cody Womack scored a 6-2 win at No. 1 Doubles.   Kyle Garner and Zakk Mann teamed up for a 6-4 win at No. 2 Doubles, and Scott Hoover and Johnathon Meece won their match 6-3.  

The Lady Lakers were not quite as fortunate dropping several close sets to the Lady Indians in a 3-1 loss.  Kayla Marcum and Alisha Dockery scored an 8-3 win at No. 2

Doubles for the lone point.  Katie Dalton and Donavyn Coffey lost a hard-fought match 8-5.

In a previous match from April 22nd, the Lakers and Lady Lakers traveled to Wayne Co.

and fell at the hands of the home-standing Cardinals 9-0.  Womack nearly earned a point rallying from a 2-5 deficit before falling in a tie-breaker 7-6 (8-6).

On May 3rd, Russell County made their way through flooded Casey County only to get swamped by the Rebels, arguably the region’s top boys team and one of the top-ranked girls squads.  While the Titans took every match, it looked like the Lakers might score a couple of points at No. 1 Doubles and No. 6 Singles; however Kingry and Womack suffered a heartbreaking 9-7 loss in doubles and Ben Roy fell by the same margin in singles.

The Lady Lakers played several tough matches before succumbing to the Lady Rebels

who were led by top seeds Brook Curry and Tylyn Leigh.  The Laker Boys are now 3-6 on the season and the Lady Lakers are 1-7-1.
