The Russell County Laker Boys and Girls Tennis Teams played a couple of exciting matches this past week but came up short in both attempts against Lincoln County and Danville.

On Tuesday, May 4th, the Lady Lakers stayed close to Lincoln County winning two of the six singles matches before dropping all three doubles match-ups.  Caity Kerr defeated Callie Taylor 6-4 at No.3 Singles and Megan Bloyd scored an impressive 6-4 win at No. 4 singles.

The Laker Boys got off to a fast start against Lincoln County taking the first three singles pairings.  

After trailing 3-0 early, Kerry Kingry stormed back to win 7-6 (7-3) at No. 1 Singles.  Cody Womack forged a comeback of his own overcoming a 4-1 deficit to win 7-5.  In No. 3 Singles, Kyle Garner scored a solid 6-3 win over Joe Van Hook.   

The Patriots won the last 3 singles matches and all the doubles to take the win 6-3.

On Thursday, March 6th, the Lakers Boys dropped a close match to the Admirals of Danville 3-2 playing in regional format style.   

The Lakers were paced by Kingry and Womack who scored wins in singles play.  Danville took both doubles match-ups and the final singles to claim the victory.  The Lady Lakers had a tougher time with the Lady Admirals dropping all 5 matches.

The Lady Lakers will be playing in the 12th Region Tournament beginning this Friday afternoon, May 14th, at Berea College.
