In May 13 IssueThe Russell County Lakers won as many games as they lost over the past week, going 3-3 in six varsity games.
On Tuesday night, the Lakers fell on the road at Boyle County by a score of 12-2 in five innings. The Laker junior varsity squad picked up the win 10-6 over the Rebels.
On Monday night the Lakers defeated Pulaski County at Laker Field, 6-4, with Hunter Best picking up the win on the mound and Caleb Russell earning the save.
Over the weekend the Lakers defeated Lincoln County 3-1and fell to West Jessamine 5-4 in Somerset. Last Friday the Lakers fell to the Briar Jumpers 3-0 on the road. The day before the Lakers downed Adair County 6-3 at Laker Field.
The Laker JV also defeated the visiting Indians by a score of 7-6.
On Thursday night the Lakers will host Wayne County. This game will also be Senior Night for the Laker baseball team as seniors Dillon Downey, Jordan Best, Zach Carney and Bryson McFall are honored before the varsity game, which is slated to begin around 6:30 p.m.
For the next two weeks, the Laker JV team will play the first game at 5 p.m. at Laker Field.
Senior Night will also be Little League Appreciation Night as all major league, minore league and 8-year-old league players are asked to be at the field at 5:45 p.m. in uniform.
Then, on Friday, it will be Coach Terry Wade Day at Laker Field, honoring the longtime Laker baseball coach, who will be in attendance.
7-year-old league players will be honored Friday night also. Players should be at the field at 5:45 p.m. in their uniforms.
