In May 27 IssueAmong the medium-sized weekly papers in the state, the Times Journal’s advertising staff was rated as third in Kentucky.
This was only the first time in 10 years that the staff had entered the competition, and was richly rewarded with first place awards in “Best use of Color,” “Political Advertising,” as well as “Sporting Goods / Athletics.”
“This is so cool,” said Graphics Designer Renee Daffron. “I mean this is a really big deal to win against the competition we face.”
Another area publication also brought home some awards from their competition with the smaller circulation papers in the commonwealth.
Advertising Manager Stephanie Smith said she was very proud of the awards from the Kentucky Press Association.
She added that it was simply recognition of what she has said for some time, “The Times Journal presents advertisers with the best in value and highest quality advertising for this market.”
She noted that the political and retail fields were where the paper shone, as well as the use of color in advertising.
In addition to first place recognition, the Times Journal won second place in—
Financial
Food & Alcohol
Real Estate
Entertainment / Dining
Third place awards were earned for —
Automotive
Best Ad Series
Special Events
The paper’s staff was also awarded third place overall across the commonwealth for their quality advertising design and layout in their very competitive division.
David Davenport, Publisher, stated he was so very pleased with this recognition and praised the Times Journal staff for their efforts and expertise.
Davenport added, “our staff takes every means possible to make The Times Journal the best publication. We are even more excited these awards were given in categories that directly reflect to our advertisers, the ones that support us and make the publishing of The Times Journal possible.
