In June 10 Issue
The conclusion of the 2010 RCHS track and field season wrapped up with state place medals and personal best times at the KHSAA State Championships held at University of Louisville on June 3rd.
The girl’s 4X400 relay team ran their personal best time of 4:20.58 and their effort paid off with a place on the KHSAA medal spot in 8th place.
The team members are Emily York, Bailey Bean, LeeAnn Grider, and Ally Harris. It was an exciting race, as it was at regionals, only this time there was state championship medals on the line. The girl’s team is all young with two freshman and two eighth graders, considering their age an experience level, it was a great accomplishment medaling the entire AA state meet.
There is no limits for these girl’s in the future, as if they finished that high up at such a young age, I cannot wait to see what happens in the future for these young and talented ladies. The boy’s 4X400 relay also ran their season best time of 3:31.27, making it to a 7th place finish overall in Class AA.
The team members are Aaron Pierce, Jeron Hammond, Jackson Evans, and Nick Britt. It was a great way to see the two seniors on the relay team finish out their high school running career.
Aaron Pierce, which has ran track for 7 years and teammate Jackson Evans had an incredible season, and I could not ask for two better individuals to take to state and coach.
The same team of girls ran the 4X200 relay and finished 14th overall with a time of 1:52.83. The boy’s 4X200 relay team of the same members finished 11th overall with a time of 1:34.72. The boy’s 4X100 relay team ran a time of 45.74 and placed 16th overall.
Ally Harris competed in the 800 meter run, making it 3 events that she ran in her first state championships with a season best time of 2:32.66 and 13th place overall ranking. Codey Bell had a season best throw of 42’8.5 placing 15th overall, and finishing his senior year with a positive highlight.
The state meet was a positive success and each athlete that competed gave it a 100 percent effort in their events.
It is sad to lose many of the seniors on the team, but there is great young talent coming in as well that makes for an exciting future.
Thanks to the parents, businesses, community, principals and athletic director for helping to make this a successful season.
