In June 10 IssueBy Derek AaronTimes Journal ReporterA child was killed and another seriously injured in a mishap on Saturday evening in the McClendon Ridge community, according to state police.
Just after 6:30 p.m Saturday., officers and emergency personnel responded to the residence on McClendon Ridge Road following a 911 call.
Jennifer Hardin, 36, of Russell Springs had arrived at a residence to pick up her son following a birthday party, according to authorities.
As she was leaving, police said she turned her vehicle around in an adjacent yard and struck two young girls that were playing in the yard.
Both children were transported by Russell County EMS to the Russell County Hospital.
4-year-old Lilla Brizendine, who was in from Oklahoma with her family and was visiting family here, was pronounced dead at the Russell County Hospital by Coroner Larry Skaggs while 8-year-old Gabrielle York was airlifted to Kosair Children’s Hospital in Louisville with life-threatening injuries.
As of presstime, York, who is in critical condition, is still in Louisville being treated for injuries to her face and leg.
No charges have been filed in the incident and the investigation is continuing.
