“Most of the interior walls are completed,” said Jim Gilbert. “The trusses will be in this week and we should be putting the roof on next Thursday.”
Gilbert, a foreman for Branscum Construction which is the construction manager for the new Russell County Detention Center, described the progress at the site as good.
He said the recent rains had impacted some of the work, but things were proceeding well.
"The first of January the vacancy sign should be up," said Gilbert, of what some call a "cross-bar hotel."
There are group cells, individual cells, exercise areas, kitchen and laundry facilities in the new jail.
He pointed out one of the rooms, about the size of a large closet, "These are the detox-cells."
Gilbert said the cell doors should be going in soon in the building located behind the county's senior citizen center off US-127 in southern Russell Springs.
