In Aug. 19 IssueThe big Steve Wariner concert at the Russell County Schools Auditorium is a little more than two weeks away, but there are still plenty of excellent tickets available to the general public, according to Susan Melton, director of the facility.
Around 300 seats remain for the concert in the 734 seat auditorium, she said.
Wariner, who at one time lived in Russell County, won a Grammy for Best Country Instrumental Performance earlier this year for his tribute to Chet Atkins 'The Producer's Medley,' and is also set to enter the Kentucky Music Hall of Fame when it holds its next induction ceremony in April 2011 in Lexington.
The concert, entitled "An Evening with Grammy Award Winner Steve Wariner" is slated for Saturday, Sept. 4 at 7:30 p.m.
"We've got people from Long Island, New York coming to this event," Melton said. "Atlanta … it is mostly people coming from outside of Russell County."
Tickets are on sale for $55 and can be purchased by calling 270-866-6300 or 270-566-3586 or by visiting the auditorium/natatorium Monday through Thursday during school hours or by emailing susan.melton@russell.kyschools.us, deborah.whittle@russell.kyschools.us or rita.branscum@russell.kyschools.us
All profit made from the concert will go toward programs and productions to bring back into the school system's auditorium, she said.
The long rumored concert was organized in late spring after Melton made a call to Wariner's Nashville-based agent, Bonnie Sugarman.
Wariner will also receive an undisclosed fee for his performance, she said.
He last played publicly at an event in Noblesville, Ind. last month. The event served as a fundraiser in memory of his late nephew Matt Wariner, who died April 16 in a one-car accident in Noblesville.
