In Sept. 11 IssueRussell County NewsBy Ron Cowell, ColumnistThe "Outsiders" Car Club finished up their Cruise In Season last Friday night with the best cruise in they had all year. The "OUTSIDERS" along with Houchens in the Key Village Shopping Center put on their final cruise in for the year in the parking lot of the Store.
Store Manager Keith Taylor was on hand and once again supporting the "Outsiders" as he has done all year. There were plenty of prizes given out along with two country hams, a $50.00 gift card from Houchen's along with other cash prizes and goodies.
You couldn't help but get hungry with the smell of pork chops and steak cooking on the grill. Food, fun, music and old cars made the night.
The music filled the air with the oldies from the 1950's and 60's. At one point there was a Twist contest going in the parking lot. Gary Sullivan and his wife along with Susan Bernardi were the winners there.
All and all the season ended on a high note for the "OUTSIDERS' with the last Cruise in. They would like to thank their many sponsors for such a good season. Also thanks to the hard work of many of the club members, including Fill Cowell and Phyllis Taylor, the clubs 50's girls for all their hard work. Also, thanks to the Ol Boys Toys Club for all the help they provided. A special thanks to Themie Shepard for all his photography work. We can't forget to thank the public who all attended the events this year.
The next morning right across the parking lot Sonic Drive In held their annual car show. The weather was perfect for the day, temps in the 70's, plenty of sunshine and a parking lot full of cars and motorcycles.
At the end of the day awards were given out for the Sonic Show. Taking the top award for Best of Show and the Ladies Choice was Billy Lawson with his 1966 Mustang.
The Best truck award went to J.D. and Mildred Bradshaw. Best customized went to Gary Sullivan for his home built "Woody" I'm sure many have seen it cruising around town.
The best Motorcycle award went to Dave Vaughn for his shinny Harley Davidson. The club participation award went to the Ol Boys Toys with the most members there.
