In Oct. 14 IssueThe Russell County Laker Band took the field in competition in the Pulaski County Invitational Saturday and came home with several awards including best percussion, best color guard and second place in the AAA division.
The band, under the direction of Curtis Ervin, also received best overall percussion, best overall color guard, the Mark Allen Haste Esprit De Corp award and reserve grand champion.
Other bands competing in Saturday's competition were Pineville, Wayne County, Corbin, Garrard County, McCreary Central, North Laurel and Boyle County.
The band will travel next to Lebanon this Saturday, Oct. 16, where they will compete in the Marion County Knight-Fest.
The Mighty Lakers are scheduled to take the field at 2:45 p.m. central time for preliminary competition and the finals competition begins at 6 p.m. central time.
