In Oct. 16 Issue
Russell County News
By Ron Cowell, Columnist

Last Saturday, Oct. 9th The West 80 Church of God had their 9th Annual Church Festival. It was a day of fun for all that attended. The weather was perfect for all the activities. Along with Dog Show, Wagon Rides and Races, Horse Races, Horse and Mule Pull, games for the kids and plenty of good food, they had The Car and Tractor Show.

Once again the cars attending the show were all shined up and looking good. The judges had a hard time picking the winners. There were trophies for the top ten. The awards went to Larry Wilson, Terry George, David Roy, David Hill, Junior Albertson, Gary Sullivan, Glen Eads, Mathew Loy, Ron "Records" Tucker and Rob Stevens.

The Best of Show Trophy went to Jerry Sullivan. The best Unfinished Tractor went to John McGowan and the Best restored tractor winner was Cameron Aaron.

Coming up this Saturday Oct. 16th the Tonya Stearns Classic Car Show will be held at Sonic in Russell Springs. Entry fee for the show is $10.00 with all proceeds going to medical bills for Tonya Stearns. Donations are welcome also.

There will be trophies awarded for the top 15 cars along with Dash plaques for the first 50 entries. Plus there will be the Best of Show award. The show is open to Cars, Motorcycles, Tractors in fact all vehicles are welcome. Polish up that ride and come on out.

What is considered to be the last big Car Show of the year is coming up November at the "Cruise In The Valley" Car Show in Renfro Valley. To give you some idea of the size of this show there will be awards given for the TOP 163 vehicles on the Show Field. There are so many awards and trophies given out, there is not enough room to list them all.

Registration will get underway at 9:00 AM. Even if you don't have an old car you might want to see this one. It's one of the largest shows of the year. That all takes place November 6th, hope to see you there.

For more information on this show call Larry Hammond at 606-256-2125 or Charlie Napier at 606-758-8993.

The weather for this season has been really hot and kept a lot of people from attending the shows but those who did attend had a warm but good time.

Everyone who knows and likes Old cars know two of the nicest people in Russell County, John and MaryAnn McDaniel, Well The couple are thinning out the herd as they say and selling several of their old cars.

Up for auction are over 20 top quality cars. If you're looking for a really nice car, you won't want to miss this auction. There is a 1957 Ford Hard top retractable, 57 Ford Fairlane 500, 1953 Ford Victoria, a 59 abd 60 Ford Skyliner just to name a few.

The auction will be held Friday Oct 15th and Saturday the the Fall Charlotte Auto Fest at the Metrolina Expo Center in Charlotte, NC. The auction will be held indoors at a climate controlled building for everyone's comfort. If you would like to see the cars and check out the Auction, you can go to Anyone that knows John knows his cars are TOP QUALITY and if your looking for a great car, this would be the auction to attend.

I spoke with the members of most of the car clubs here in Russell County, The Outsiders, Old Boy's Toys, Lake Cumberland Classic Cars and Another Level and they all would like to thank everyone who attended their shows and cruise ins this year. Everyone is already planning for the events for next year.

If you know someone you would like to see featured in my article or your club has an upcoming event you like to let everyone know about send the information to --- --- and we'll get it in here for you. If your group or club is having an event and you would like to have some of the Classic Cars there for display any of the local clubs would be glad to bring their cars out to show, (weather permitting).

All information needs to be in at least two weeks before the event.

Until next time, Keep Cruisin’!
