The Russell County Lakers notched another win Friday night to move their
record to 5-3 on the season with undefeated district foe Allen
County-Scottsville making the trek here Friday night.
The visiting Lakers thwarted Barren County 62-22 with more than 500 total yards and nine touchdowns on the night while the homestanding Barren County team only garnered 184 yards on the ground and 161 through the air.
It was a big game for senior quarterback Martin Cross who tallied 303 yards and five touchdowns on 9-11 passing and also rushed for a score.
Cross led a high scoring Russell County passing attack as Barren County did their best to slow down the numerous Laker rushers. Senior Jeron Hammond caught three passes for 126 yards and two scores, sophomore Nick Britt caught one pass for 58 yards and a score, senior Kerry Kingry caught one pass for 34 yards and a score, freshman Evan Fletcher caught one pass for five yards and a score, senior Taylor Hutchison caught three balls for 77 yards and sophomore Lucas Whittle had one reception for eight yards.
Barton Mann, a sophomore, also completed his only pass on the night, a five-yard touchdown toss late in the ballgame.
On the ground the Lakers were led by Mann's 68 yards and one score, Hutchison carried the ball twice for 57 yards, Hammond carried five times for 43 yards and a score, Britt carried 17 times for 35 yards, Fletcher had one carry for 24 yards, Lee Cox and Lucas Whittle both had one carry for one yard.
Defensively, Todd McGowan tallied six tackles, Fletcher had five, Whittle had four, Travis Polston had three, Mason Short with two and Darrell Nealey with two.
The Lakers and Allen County-Scottsville will kick off Friday at 7 p.m. at Finley Field at Laker Stadium.
