In Nov. 4 IssueStriperFun Guide Service and Captain Jim Durham recently showcased Lake Cumberland and the area's wonderful striper fishery on the "MyOutdoor TV" family of networks on the show "1 Big Fish".
Captain Durham hosted Captain Don Sweet and the entire "1 Big Fish" crew for a full three days of fun packed striper fishing back this summer.
The show aired on September 5th on the MyOutdoor TV family of networks on Comcast Cable and will most likely air several more times through the fall and winter, Durham said.
"I can't begin to tell you how exciting and fun it was to spend three days with Captain Don Sweet, his wife Victoria, Captain Craig Weaver and the 1 Big Fish Crew and to showcase Lake Cumberland", Captain Jim said. "They are all consummate professionals and super nice people. I just had a blast running them around all over the lake and slamming big fish. We caught a lot of stripers and got a lot of great footage of the lake. I couldn't be more pleased with how the show turned out and I believe it should draw some big game fishing enthusiasts to the lake."
Specializing in "trophy" striper fishing as the owner of StriperFun Fishing Guide Service, which has four full time U.S. Coast Guard Captain Guides servicing Lake Cumberland customers, Jim also owns Captain Jim Marine Electronics and Captain Jim Special fishing lures.
Captain Jim Durham is a Kentucky native and state licensed guide who has fished Lake Cumberland year round for more than 45 years.
As a member of Team Evinrude, Captain Jim is a U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Marine Captain and is also the creator of the "Striper Fish like a Pro" instructional DVD series.
"Captain Jim showed us a great time on the water and is was fascinating to learn all the various techniques used to go after these mighty fish you have here at Lake Cumberland," Captain Don Sweet said. "We fished live gizzard shad using both down lines and slow trolling planer boards and Captain Jim did a great job sharing his inside secrets and explaining and demonstrating these techniques for our show's viewers. We also casted Captain Jim's line of fishing lures and trolled Captain Jim's Dominator umbrella rigs, those umbrella rigs are simply amazing. The fish were hitting them so hard they literally broke a couple of the rod holders. How much fun! We caught a lot of fish using all of these methods and I certainly learned a lot about the lake and striper fishing."
Captain Durham said, "We fished the Harmon Creek area of the lake the first day, using live bait, casting and trolling. The fish were cooperative and we boated a good number of fish and some really nice keepers. The second day we got up early and actually ran from Jamestown Marina, who was my host for the trip - thank you to John Meincken and Jamestown Marina for their hospitality, all the way down to Fishing Creek in the fog. It was an hour and fifteen minute straight run. Wow! Thank goodness for radar and GPS. But it was well worth it, the fish were there and we got in to them with big time with Captain Don catching a really nice 20 pound plus post spawn female striper."
"It was really interesting to see how the shoreline of Lake Cumberland is not cluttered with houses or docks and how this makes for a very pristine area to visit," Captain Don Sweet said.
"Captain Jim made it a point the first day to explain the history of the lake for the viewers so they could really appreciate the boundless beauty of Lake Cumberland. He also used his knowledge of the lake and experience to provide a season by season explanation as to where to fish on the lake different times of the year and what methods to use to catch the big ones, including showing our viewers how to fish the stepped edges of the river channel by reading the fish finder correctly. Our viewers will eat this stuff up. We caught a huge 20 pound plus trophy and it turned out to be one of our best shows ever."
