Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery and Russell County Public Library to Kick Off 2011 with Nature Rocks! Family Nature Club!
Join in each month as the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery, in partnership with the Russell County Library, offers a FUN family oriented activity designed to help get you and your family outdoors and connected with nature! Monthly gatherings will be held on the third Tuesday of each month, meeting locations will rotate between two locations (making it easier for families to attend) and there is NO cost for families and friends to be a part of the fun! A schedule of when, where and what theme is below, and refreshments will be provided. Pre-registration is also NOT required.

January 18th, 2011:What’s Wild? Come hang out at the hatchery for some what’s wild fun!You’ll enjoy games, crafts, fun snacks AND a chance to meet some of our cool critters up close and personal!All along the way you’ll learn about the similarities and differences between wild and tame animals.
February 15th, 2011:FALL in LOVE
with Nature!
Do animals have emotions?If you’ve asked this very question, come out for a special story adventure.Lots of yummy goodies will also be available as we learn more about the many ways animals show their feelings.
Match 15th, 2011:Tracks and Scat,
Oh MY!
Discover how to track animals even when they’re not around!Make molds, go on a scavenger hunt, make edible tracks and learn about other identifiers.
April 19th, 2011:Grow As We Go…
Ever wondered about the life cycle of a dragonfly or butterfly?Even a trout?What about your own life cycle?Join in for a fun evening as we explore the life cycles of familiar wildlife and understand that living things grow and change!
May 17th, 2011:Bountiful Birding!
As the spring season begins, join in as we celebrate our many migratory friends that will be traveling through the area!Go on a hike, enjoy some bird watching, munch on a bird buffet and more!
June 14th, 2011:Hiding in Plain Sight
Play a fun game of hide and seek animal camouflage style, enjoy songs and stories, good food and more as we learn about plant and animal survival via adaptations.
July 19th, 2011:Stream Hike and Exploration
Come prepared to flip over rocks and learn what makes a stream healthy!Wear old clothes you don’t mind getting dirty and old, comfy sneakers with good tread!PLEASE:NO sandals or flip flops!
August 16th, 2011:Water, Water Everywhere!
Although it might be the dog days of summer, here’s a great event to learn more about a resource that is needed by us all:water!Activities, games and more await you and yours!
September 20th, 2011:Trout-tastic Fishing
Bring your family to enjoy an afternoon of fishing fun.All those 16 years of age and older need a fishing license, and Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife rules and regulations apply.Poles, bait and fishing assistance will be available but please feel free to bring your own gear if you wish!
October 18th, 2011:Spider Web Wonders!
Think spiders are creepy?Ever wonder why a web looks like it does?Whether friend of foe, get up close and personal with one of our most helpful creepy, crawly critters.We’ll go spider hunting, learn about the strength of a spider web and make spider inspired snacks!
November 15th, 2011:Looking at Leaves
Get outdoors and enjoy the autumn colors with a program that’s all about trees!We’ll explore the natural world via a variety of games, stories and more, including a campfire themed snack/craft.
December 20th, 2011:Holiday Habitat
With the holidays upon us, many people start to think about visits home to see family and friends.Yes, we all start to crave our favorite “habitat” home, but people aren’t the only ones who need and love their habitat:Animals do too, and each one is unique!Come learn and share as we celebrate a home for the holidays for person, animals and plant alike!
Activities will be geared towards kiddos ages 5 and up although any and all children are welcome. Additionally, it is requested that all children in attendance be accompanied by an adult. Families come in all forms too, so it may be friends, nieces and nephews with aunts and uncles, grandparents and grandchildren, etc. The program simply welcomes any and all families and friends who wish to be a part!
