The Russell County Lakers remain undefeated through four games after downing the Somerset Briar Jumpers 59-47 Tuesday night.
Russell County was led in scoring by Tyler Robertson with 17 points and Nick Coffey with 10 points.
The Lakers shot 45 percent from the field as a team while holding Somerset to just 38 percent shooting.
Also scoring for Russell County was Martin Cross with seven points, Barton Mann and Dustin Pierce with six points each, Logan Smith and Blake Aaron with five points each and Nick Britt with three points.
Robertson also had four assists and eight rebounds for the Lakers while Cross led the team in steals with four.
Somerset was led in scoring by Clayton Stringer with 27 points.
“Early in the year I didn’t think we’d get many opportunities to play with a lead with a young team,” said Laker coach Willie Feldhaus following the victory.
As Somerset rallied to cut it to single digits late in the second half after trailing by 21 points, Feldhaus said his team had a few defensive breakdowns as the game wore on.
But the Lakers weathered the storm and sealed the victory late.
Feldhaus said three’s in the first half by Robertson, Cross, Aaron and two by Pierce was the difference in extending the lead and putting Somerset in panic mode early.
Russell County will now have a week off before traveling to Monroe County next Tuesday.
