In Dec. 30 IssueThe Russell County Lady Lakers won their first game in the First Southern National Bank/Roy's BBQ Classic in Logan County over Woneroo, a team out of Australia.
The final score was Russell County 63 and Woneroo 59. Leading the way for the Lady Lakers was Madison Loy with 17 points, 10 of those coming from the free throw line, and six assists. Lindsay Ramage also had a big game with 16 points, 12 rebounds and six steals.
Blair Hoover had nine points and 10 rebounds while both Regan Helm and Julie Wethington had seven points each. Ally Harris had five points and Tyla Bailey finished with two points for Russell County. Amanda Cooper played for the Lady Lakers, who shot 38 percent as a team, but did not score. Leading scorer LeeAnn Grider sat the game out nursing a sprained ankle suffered in a game last week.
The Laker boys had a rougher go in the BBQ Classic as they fell to South Warren, 63-55. Russell County shot 44 percent from the field but could not hold back Cody Stumbo, who finished with 23 points on the night.
Leading the way for Russell County was Tyler Robertson with 24 points followed by Blake Aaron with 12 points. Logan Smith and Nick Coffey finished with four points each while Barton Mann finished with three points and eight rebounds.
Martin Cross, Hunter Best, Dustin Pierce and Lucas Whittle all finished with two points each.
