In Jan. 20 IssueNew County Attorney Kevin Shearer wants to let everyone know that the child support offices have returned to Jamestown.
"We've gotten a couple of calls lately and I've spoken to some people out who didn't realize the office wasn't in Russell Springs anymore," Shearer said. "All the child support is now here in Jamestown."
Shearer said with he and Don Byrom, the new assistant county attorney, as law partners the child support division is now centered in the former Byrom Law office at 410 Monument Square, which is now Shearer and Byrom Law office.
"The child support office includes two ladies that will be what we call paternity establishments," Shearer said. "If paternity has not been established on a child then they can apply for our services and that is how it gets started."
Shearer said once paternity is established there are two other ladies that are involved with child support enforcement. Once they get into court and child support and paternity is established, the court sets an amount that a non-custodial parent would pay and then it is the child support enforcement job's to make sure the payments are being made.
The child support number is 270-343-5544 while payment information can also be obtained by calling 1-800-443-1576.
County attorney office hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7:30 to noon on Saturday.
