In Jan. 27 IssueThursday's meeting o the Jamestown City Council marked the first in the administration of incoming Mayor Terry Lawless.
Two items scrubbed from the agenda left very little to do this January. The issue of the 2011 Policy and Procedures was delayed until February due to relevant personnel being snowed in, in another area in Kentucky.
Lawless recommended George Ralph Garr as Mayor Pro Tem.
With nothing left on the agenda, Lawless said he would like to take a moment to make a few remarks.
After stating it was "An honor to be serving as Mayor of Jamestown," he went on to give his view of the condition of the city; "Being the mayor for only a short period of time I can report that the state of the city is stable, but that we will need to keep a close watch on our budget due the increases in health insurance and benefits paid to our employees."
Lawless went on to say that he and the staff would be working on the budget shortly. "We will be polling the council to see if they would like to do a budget workshop," and added, "Personally, I think the workshops are a good idea so that you, and myself, will have a better understanding of the budget and the time required to put into the other budget." He then finished by saying, "Hopefully, there will be much discussion, and prayer, in the decisions we make."
