In Jan. 27 IssueThe Russell County Fiscal Court met in a called meeting last Wednesday with one item on the agenda; to transfer $100,000 from the county general fund to the jail fund.
The transfer has been a common practice and was just left off as oversight during the January fiscal court meeting.
Though no official opening date had been set for the jail, there have been some delays that have set the jail opening back, according to county officials.
Judge Executive Gary Robertson said that minor completion delays and small change orders are the cause.
He also said the jail construction remains under budget.
The new correction facility is tentatively scheduled to open in early February.
Jail employees are being utilized in various positions in the county as well as completing extensive training required to safely operate the new facility.
