In Feb. 19 IssueRussell Springs Volunteer Fire Department responded to a house fire at 2:30 p.m. Thursday on D Grider Rd just off Blair School House Rd at a home owned by Leonard Pierce and occupied by Paul Foster.
Fire had spread across D Grider Rd. to a field adjacent to the home. Russell Springs VFD Chief H.M. Bottom said the cause of the fire has not been determined and is under investigation.
Chief Bottom urges local residents to use good judgement when burning.
“Although we’ve had snow and rain, a lot of grass is extremely dry,” said Bottom. “We’ve had four grass fires locally during the last two days.”
He said recent high winds have contributed to fire spreading across dry grass fields. Residents should wait until late in the day to burn when winds are calm, Bottom said.
