In Feb. 19 IssueA wreck Tuesday night on East Hwy. 80 near Bolin Rd. claimed the life of a Jamestown woman, injured her two young children as well as two other adults from the other vehicle.
The wreck happened around 8:20 p.m. when a 1999 Ford Windstar van, being driven by Ricky Simpson, 28, of Russell Springs, crossed the center line traveling east and struck a westbound 2003 Dodge van, being driven by Sherri Vibbert, 38, of Jamestown head-on, according to Deputy Sheriff Nick Bertram.
Simpson and a passenger, Tiffany Harden, 26, were both flown to the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center. Harden was flown from the scene while Simpson was flown from the Russell County Hospital. Vibbert was flown from the scene to U.K. Medical Center as well where she later died, according to Bertram.
Two passengers in the Vibbert vehicle, Taylor Pierce, 12, and Zachary Hudson, 15, both children of Vibbert were taken by Russell County EMS to the Russell County Hospital for treatment of their injuries.
Bertram said the investigation is ongoing and criminal charges are pending.
Assisting Bertam at the scene was Deputy Mark Cromwell, Russell County EMS and members of the Russell Springs Fire Department.
