As all of you know, we are also in the real estate business and quite often work with people moving to our community.
We have a very nice experience recently when a family of four decided to move to Russell County. In the process of looking at homes, the couple was seeking information and also sharing considerations.
Of course, Lake Cumberland was a major issue in their decision, but the number one reason was our school system. They were very impressed with the physical aspect of our system, but were more impressed with the academic standards, sports and curriculum .
Very few of us really realize just how important our school system is to the progress and advancement of our community.
Last week we spoke of various considerations our county government was undertaking with the budget crisis.
We discussed the cutting of various service, trimming budgets and etc., but apparently the decision had already been made to increase the payroll tax.
Of course, increasing taxes is the quickest and easiest way to solve any budget problem.....if you are the government.
Would not it be wonderful if we as taxpayers could operate this way.
We could just go tell our employer, sorry we cannot pay all out debt and keep our tv, electricity, buy food, pay for the car, send the kids to school, so you have to raise my take home pay.
That would be nice, but it just does not work that way.
We have not heard one serious discussion of how we can reduce cost, just how we can raise taxes.
