In March 17 IssueRussell County's Dorsey Franklin is a "Gold Winner" in the Starbound National Talent Competition which was held in Columbus, Ohio this past Friday and Saturday.
Dorsey competed in the Starbound Talent Regionals at Franklin Veterans Memorial Arena in Columbus, Ohio as a soloist in the song and dance category.
Starbound is America's largest talent competition and is featured on the E! Channel.
Starbound hosts regionals held in locations throughout the country. The prestigious panel of judges were from New York and were professional dancers, singers and actors. They scored contestants from Bronze, High Bronze, Silver, High Silver, Gold, High Gold and Elite Gold.
Dorsey was awarded Gold and she now advances to the nationals in Orlando in July. Dorsey was also awarded the distinguished Judges Award for "most commitment in stage presence."
Dorsey won this award out of 32 junior soloists age 12 and under. Dorsey was entered in the competition by owner, instructor Marti Sallee of The Dance Shoppe in Russell Springs. The Dance Shoppe was also named in the Judges Award as it was presented to Dorsey.
Dorsey performed a vocal and tap routine to Frank Sinatra's "New York."
This routine was also a winning performance for Dorsey at the 2010 Tennessee State Fair.
Dorsey said she was honored to represent The Dance Shoppe and Kentucky at Starbound.
She expresses a special thank you to vocal coach Shawn Samuell and tap instructors Marti Sallee and Jessica Critz of The Dance Shoppe.
She is the 10 year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Scottie Franklin of Jamestown.
