The Russell County Track and Field team competed at Boyle County on Saturday in the Class AA Region 5 track meet with the boys finishing 5th overall while the girls finished 9th overall.
The following athletes qualified for the state meet Thursday at the University of Louisville: Nick Britt was the regional champion in the long jump, Matt Adams was third in discus, Emily Wilson was third in discus, Bailey Phillips was third in 300 M hurdles and Blake Ellis was third in 300 M hurdles.
In the 4x100 and 4x200 LeeAnn Grider, Madison Loy, Heather Sinclair and Emily York qualified for state while Grider, Loy, York and Bailey Phillips qualified for state in the 4x400.
In the 4x100, Nick Britt, Evan Fletcher, Justin Roy and Jeron Hammond all qualified while in the 4x200, Britt, Fletcher, Hammond and Blake Ellis qualified.
Qualification for state was the top two from each of the seven regions and the next 10 best at large performances from across the state.
In the 100 M Intermediate Hurdles Blake Ellis finished 5th and in the 300 M hurdles Ellis finished third. Fletcher, Ellis, Hammond and Britt placed third in the 800 M Relay while Trevor Robertson, Hammond, Ellis and Fletcher finished 5th in the 1,600 M Relay. Fletcher, Hammond, Roy and Britt also finished 3rd in the 400 M Relay.
Britt finished 4th in the 200 M Dash and Adams finished third in discus. Britt won the long jump with a distance of 21 ft. 1 in. while Selena Padilla finished 6th in the high hump.
Bailey Phillips placed third in the 300 M hurdles while Madison Loy finished 5th in the 100 M Dash. LeeAnn Grider, Emily Loy, Madison Loy and Heather Sinclair finished third in the 800 M Relay while Heather Sinclair finished 5th in the 400 M Dash. Grider, Phillips, York and Madison Loy finished 4th in the 1,600 M Relay. Grider, Sinclair, York and Loy finished 6th in the 400 M Relay while LeeAnn Grider finished 6th in the 200 M Dash. Emily Wilson finished 6th in shot put while Emily Wilson finished 5th in discus.
